History
Spending years in youth ministry work and highlighting on the side as a Catholic speaker and retreat leader, I realized that the problems in the parishes that I was seeing were systemic and widespread. There was apathy in the pews, frustration in the offices, and exhaustion by the clergy. Priests and people alike are all wondering the same thing, "Is this it? Is this all Christianity has to offer?"
I launched LayEvangelist.com to have a public place to write about what I saw in my travels. Now that I travel many times a month all over the US and Canada, my mission to the Church has evolved greatly. I have started two popular podcasts and developed my own parish missions to speak to the profound failures in catechesis and evangelization.

God's plan for the salvation of the world is the local church. I heard a pastor say that once and, honestly, it terrified me. The weight of the task seemed unbearable. And it is if you are doing it alone. St Paul taught that the Church is a Body where every member is connected together, yet so many clergy, staff, and volunteers share with me how alone they feel. This is not the church. This is not the new evangelization. Let's work together to change this today!

Michael "Gomer" Gormley
Marriage to his college sweetheart and father to four children, Mike balances his full-time parish work with speaking and traveling. In evangelization and discipleship training, his main task is bent toward unifying personal faith with a sacramental and biblical worldview. If Christ is truly present in the Eucharist of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, then that summit of Christian faith has to be found in every inch of Scripture. And it is. Leading parish missions, youth conferences, and diocesan events, Mike Gormley helps Catholics find Jesus Christ and make Him alone the Lord of their lives.
